When it comes to Michelin-starred restaurants, Italy is a major player. With over 300 restaurants holding either one, two or three stars, the country has more entries in the guide than anywhere else except France.

While there was no movement at the very top of the list, there were two new two stars this year. Giancarlo Perbellini’s new venture, Casa Perbellini, in Verona, proved that the chef could retain the stars gained at his previous restaurant on the island of Rizza. The Gourmetstube Einhorn in Mules was also promoted to two-star status, delighting head chef Peter Girdler. Some were shocked to see Davide Scabin and his restaurant Combal.zero get demoted from two stars to one, while the closure of double-starred Il Mosaico meant another loss for the list. However, the new restaurants mean the number of two Michelin-starred venues in Italy stays the same.

It was a particularly good year for Milan, which saw three new restaurants gain their first star. Armani, Seta and Tokuyoshi bring the total number of Michelin-starred restaurants in the city to an impressive fourteen. There were also two new stars for Venice – Dopolavoro and Ora Restaurant – securing the romantic city’s status as a culinary powerhouse.

Take a look at the full list of restaurants below.
